Candy Cane Invitational Dive Meet

Here's some additional information you may wish to know:

        - The Candy Cane Dive Meet Package is available on our Meets page.

        - It's common for the divers to feel nervous, especially if they haven’t been in a meet before. Try to avoid the word “competition” and say “fun meet where you get a candy cane!” – It’s often more enrolling! It is expected that your children will come out to the meet as part of their learning and growing in diving process, so unless I hear from you that they will not be there, I will assume they will be diving on the 10th. This is a very low pressure event - if they have a problem with a dive they are often invited to “try it again” …that kind of thing.

        - The meet fees are $10 for registration and then $10 for each board they will dive - if they are only diving on 1 meter, then the cost will be $20, 1 and 3 meters and the total cost will be $30. If you don't know how many boards your child is diving, please check with their coach. Both Kelly and Danielle, along with Kostya will be there to coach on the meet day. The Fraser Valley Divers will have the option of buying a Candy Cane Diving Meet T-shirt for $15.00 if they wish. All divers will receive a ribbon and a candy cane.

        - We will not know the final schedule for the event until about a week before the event. This is because we need to see how many we have registered for each event before we can develop the schedule. Typically learn-to-dive (Tier 3) events occur first in the morning (you will likely need to have them at the pool by 7:30 or 8:00 a.m. to do a bit of warm-up before we begin at 8:30 or so. When you child has completed their events you are free to leave or stay and cheer on other groups. Tier 2 (Recreational) will happen around noon with Tier 1 (competitive) events closing the day. Sometimes the day does not end until 5:30 or 6:00 p.m.

        - We will be joined by several other clubs in the lower mainland for this event so it promises to be an exciting day. Please feel free to invite others who can cheer on your divers - there will be bleachers set up along the north side of the pool with space for all. Bring cameras (but no flashes please).

        - We would appreciate your support with volunteering and helping to make this a successful meet. Volunteers are needed to staff the scoring table (these are not complex jobs and you will learn more about the sport of diving) and to assist where needed. Please-mail Helen Lingham if you would be willing to volunteer some time that day (indicating when you will be there). Also, you will shortly be receiving an e-mail from Christine Koschel who has graciously agreed to manage the food for the day. Christine will send out an e-mail with some options for food - please let her know what you would be interested in bringing. We like to feed the divers and volunteers well during this day.

Shanghai Diving Team coming to Vancouver!

BC Diving has been informed by Boxi Liang that the Shanghai Diving Team will be in Vancouver on their way home from the Canada Cup on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 4:30 pm at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre.

All team members are invited to come and watch them train and meet them. Any diver that is already diving at the Aquatic Centre on Wednesday will still have their normal practice.

This is a good chance to see some of the best divers in the World perform.
