How old does my child have to be to dive?

We have divers from the age of 4 and up. The only thing we need is for the child to be comfortable in deep water and can swim to the side without assistance.

Do you have to go to competitions?

No - but most children really enjoy the competitions! They are geared towards every level of development. There are split up into several categories so those who are just starting out - no matter what age, will be diving against those with similar experience. Even if you are 13 and just starting out - there is a category for you!!

How often should we dive?

You can dive as little or as much as you would like. We partner with White Rock Divers which allows us to offer practice opportunities 6 days per week. As expected, the more you dive, the more you will improve!!

How much does it cost?

It depends on how many practice sessions you attend. Please see the registration page for costs.

Why take your lessons when I can register for city run lessons instead?

We employ only technically trained and experienced divers as our instructors. The City employs liefeguards who have never tried to do the tricks that they are teaching and therefore can not teach the skills safely.

Are the coaches qualified?

All coaches have their NCCP Diving Coach certifications. All of our divers are ex divers who just would like to continue on in the sport. Kostya, our Head Coach is an NCCP level 3 certfied coach.

Why does the coach need to touch my child when teaching a skill?

Diving can be a potentially dangerous sport so the instructors will need to touch your child while teaching new skills.

Do I have to do fundraising?

No, but we will give you opportunities to raise funds for your self to keep and spend on diving related costs as you see fit. There will be a few fundraisers throughout the year that will be dedicated only to coaches travel funds. Those will be identified before each fundraiser.

Do the kids have to go off of the high boards and tower?

No! But again it is fun!! All divers will be encouraged to reach their potential. Coaches do realize that there is an element of fear that goes with the sport and will encourage divers to go there, but if they are not mentally ready, they don't have to.

How often are competitions?

As there are not many diving clubs in British Columbia, there are not too many competitions. Our club usually hosts at least 3 competitions per year and we usually have 2 or 3 other competitions throughout the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and Kamloops.

Can I attend more than one class per week?

Yes you can attend more than one class each week. You can attend two classes back to back or you can attend the two different classes on two different days. If you opt to dive more than 1.25 hours per week then your fees will be double or triple, etc depending on how often you plan to attend. We suggest that you contat Helen Lingham our Registrar if you want to pay for multiple classes before you write your cheques

Your child will need to graduate from the Learn to Dive program first. The Learn to Dive coach will advise the head coach that it's time your child moves up into the provincial program. Once they graduate from the provincial program then yor child would then move up to the national program.
